Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard were both grand–daughters of Thomas Howard, the 2nd Duke of Norfolk. Anne's mother, Lady Elizabeth Howard, was his fourth child and eldest daughter; Catherine's father, Lord Edmund Howard, was his third son. The first Duke (Thomas's father) was John Howard, a prominent supporter of Richard III, who died along with King Richard at the Battle of Bosworth.
